Project Overview

Personal empowerment and development is a part of my life ever since I remember. when I experienced a personal crisis a few years ago, I took everything I knew and used it to help me through the crisis.
I was looking for tools to help me see the silver lining in my situation, will keep me focused on my road to positive change, and strengthen my optimism.
This is how the idea of new products came to my mind.
It was pure serendipity when I look for something to help me and found something that helped thousands of others.

The Challenge

I am an artist who loves the touch of paper and paint and gets excited when I use different paper products. when I thought about a solution and practical tool, It was obvious to me that I will develop a paper product and not a digital one.

But we live in the digital age where much of our life is conducted through computers and cell phones.

My challenge was to develop a physical product that would be easy and convenient to use in a way that the benefit of using it would outweigh the convenience and accessibility of using a digital product.

General Research

In recent years, time management, positive psychology, and personal development have gained increasing importance in the lives of individuals. My research has included reviewing scientific material, articles, and books to determine whether time management and writing by hand have benefits as well as how positive psychology influences lifestyle and success.

Understanding Productivity

When it comes to time management I’ve found a few interesting data related to how people manage their time and what system they use:

Time management system:
management time

only 18% use a system to manage their time.

Of them:
12% use a planner or a diary.
6% use a specific technique like pomodoro or Eisenhower matrix

TMS
People don't conduct time audit:

A time audit is the most important process in developing time management skills.
Yet, 49% of people never conduct it.

the impact of goals writing on success:

goals

Harvard Business study found that the majority of people don’t have goals in life at all.

The study also found that people with goals are likely to be 10X more successful than people without goals.

If the goals are written down the chance to succeed triples.

Understanding related Positive psychology

♦   Pen and paper have several advantages over typing, such as sharpening memory for new information, improving learning processes, and enhancing concentration

To grow, develop and achieve, it is important to develop a growth mindset

♦   Positive psychology significantly impacts a person’s chance to achieve their goals

♦  Set of core values gives purpose and meaning to the goals and increases the level of commitment to goal achievement

Market Research

Competitors research

I analyzed the market looking for brands with paper planner for productivity and time management.

♦   In Israel at that time there wasn’t any brand like this.

Most of the paper tools for time management are simple, but stylish, diaries with weekly planning

♦  There are a few big international brands, most of them combined productivity assignments in their diaries

♦  All the international brands give focus on positive psychology in the planners

♦  Most of the planners are colorful and the main audience target is women

User research

I scanned Facebook groups related to work efficiency and positive psychology and looked for posts asking about ways to improve productivity, personal growth, and resilience.
I review the answers and found the following:

♦  People that insert an assignment into a time slot, are more likely to finish it

♦  Those who multitask feel they are not in control of their tasks

♦  Many people believe that they have a poor work-life balance, and they want to improve it

In a crisis, people tend to focus on what’s wrong and look for ways to fix it

Insights

From all the information I gathered, I tried to spot common patterns and characteristics of the users and produced the following insights:

1

Personal growth and development play a significant role in people’s lives

2

People feel comfortable talking about their personal challenges and asking for tools to help them

3

People are looking for effective but simple tools to help them achieve their goals

Persona Development

From the study I identified two main target audiences:

1. People who have goals and searching for a simple and easy tool to help them accomplish them.

2. people who wish to focus on strengthening their mental resilience and cycle of happiness.

The research and insights provided me with sufficient information to create the persona for each target audience that helped me clarify their personality, pain points, and goals.

The Solution

After taking into consideration the research and insights, I understood that I will need to come up with 2 products that will be based on 2 principles:

progress reflection
strength positivity

After I established the ground principles for both planners, I define the solutions for each product that will match his target audience.

The solutions for Productivity Planner
goal setting
time management system
time audit
progress reflection
strength positivity

The solutions for Gratitude Journal

Wheel of life
affirmations
celebrate wins

Product Design

When I thought about the graphic language, I wanted the planners to fit both women and men and avoid graphics that would keep men away.

I choose a simple and classic design, black and white, with no icons or any other graphic elements, so the focus will be on work with no distraction.
